Q: F***. My computer died. How do I access my encrypted backups?
A: Because BmuS uses standard gocryptfs, you are not locked into this script. You can access your data on any Linux machine (or even Mac/Windows with compatible tools) that has gocryptfs installed.
CRITICAL: You absolutely need two things to restore your data on a new machine:
- The Password File (or the password itself).
- The
gocryptfs.conffile located inside the encrypted backup folder on your NAS.
Pro Tip: Keep a copy of your encryption password and the gocryptfs.conf in a safe place (e.g., a password manager), separate from the Pi/Computer.
